Mold Prep Technician – Waxer/Assembler

Tubs-USA in High Point, NC is seeking a highly motivated Fiberglass Mold Waxer & Finishing Technician to join its team working in a hands-on, collaborative environment. The Mold Prep Technician prepares the molds for the manufacturing process by cleaning, waxing, and prepping them for use. The position is responsible for applying wax to fiberglass molds and operating the molds in a high-speed production facility environment while ensuring accuracy, and attention to detail, performing quality control procedures and preparing parts for transportation, including; inspecting, labeling, and boxing products. They must be able to read and interpret work orders, as well as use hand tools to assemble and package products.

Hourly Rate: $13 to $15 per hour
Work Hours: 7 am to 4 pm
Reports to: VP of Manufacturing
Location: 100% onsite

 

Essential Duties

  • Clean molds thoroughly and remove any debris or particles that may interfere with the manufacturing process while maintaining strict attention to detail.

  • Apply wax to molds to prevent fiberglass from sticking to them during the manufacturing process ensuring mold and part accuracy and quality.

  • Prepare molds for use by applying release agents, ensuring that they are properly coated for optimal performance.

  • Inspect molds for any defects and report any issues to the supervisor.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure that all equipment and supplies are well-stocked applying the 5s philosophy.

  • Operate machinery and tools, such as waxing machines and air hoses, and perform routine maintenance as needed.

  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that molds are prepared on time and in accordance with production schedules and solve problems related to production.

  • Inspect mold quality before and after waxing to ensure the mold is in good condition for production.

  • Follow established safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of injury or accidents.

  • Understand and execute work orders in a timely and professional manner.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with basic math and reading skills.

  • Experience and competency with basic hand tools, angle and die grinders, and buffers

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with effective communication

  • Must be able to work wearing personal protection equipment (PPE)

  • Highly organized and self-motivated with knowledge of basic prep and a job cleaning

  • Quality-conscious and detail-oriented with the ability to maintain consistency in wax application and mold operation.

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience in manufacturing and/or a high-speed production facility environment, specifically in fiberglass mold waxing and operation is preferred.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and technical ability and problem-solving orientation

  • The ideal candidate will have experience with 5s and Kaizen philosophy and continuously improve production processes using the philosophy.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, and lift heavy objects for an extended period.

  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Repeat the same movements while wearing PPE the entire day.

  • Bend or twist their body and move and lift at least 50 pounds.

  • The employee spends most of the day on their feet and must follow strict safety rules.

  • They wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, hard-toe shoes, and Tyvek paint suits, as necessary.
