Spray gun operation for the manufacturing of fiberglass bathtubs and showers. Skilled application of liquid resin and catalyst to mold surfaces, and roving/chopping fiberglass. Maintaining a clean workspace and quality part creation in a high-speed production facility.

Salary Range: $22 to $28 per hour
Work Hours: 7 am to 4 pm
Reports to: VP of Manufacturing
Location: 100% onsite

 

Essential Duties

  • Apply gel coat molds using a spray gun ensuring accuracy and quality in every part.

  • Operate and maintain fiberglass gel coat spray equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Adjusts controls to regulate speed, temperature, and pressure of laminating equipment applying even layers of polymers, resins, catalyst, and/or fiberglass chop or weave.

  • Observes lamination process, monitors curing time and surface temperature, records data and logs, and adjusts the process to ensure compliance with standards and quality.

  • Examines molds prior to spraying for any imperfections and defects.

  • Prepare surfaces for gel coat application, including cleaning, sanding, and masking.

  • Mix and prepare gel coat materials according to established procedures and apply gel coat according to established procedures, ensuring even coverage and a smooth finish.

  • Monitor spray equipment and troubleshoot issues, safe operation and adjustment, and daily cleaning of gel coating equipment and sprayers performing routine maintenance.

  • Inspect finished parts for defects and quality issues, making necessary repairs as needed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using the 5s philosophy and continuously improve production processes using the Kaizen philosophy.

  • Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the production of fiberglass tubs and mold equipment and materials.

  • Follow safety protocols to minimize the risk of injury or accidents and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, meeting or exceeding production goals.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and communicate understanding clearly.

  • High attention to detail to produce quality parts in a repeatable fashion.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Technical ability, problem-solving orientation, good practical skills, manual dexterity

  • Fiberglass experience in production part facility, boatyard, or equivalent

  • Fiberglass chop gun operation experience or HVLP paint operator experience

  • High-volume production facility operator

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, and lift heavy objects for an extended period.

  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Repeat the same movements while wearing PPE the entire day.

  • Bend or twist their body and move and lift at least 50 pounds.

  • The employee spends most of the day on their feet and must follow strict safety rules.

  • They wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, hard-toe shoes, and Tyvek paint suits, as necessary.
